Viewing a potential home

As you enter your possible future home, the question to keep in mind is, "Can I imagine living here?" Once you've ticked that box, the next step is to give the place a very thorough once-over inside and out.

Always take a friend or member of the family along, for added safety and to have that all-important second opinion. Also try to view your prospective home during the day and at night. Definitely more than once! That way you avoid any surprises. But don't worry if you miss anything - you'll be able to arrange for the property to be surveyed by an expert when you find the house you really want.

When viewing a property it is important to know what to look out for. Take your time to check everything and make sure you spend time when there's still daylight checking the outside of the property as well as the inside.

To make sure you don't miss anything this handy checklist can be printed out to take along with you on your viewing.

Google Maps is useful - you can find aerial photos of the location you're interested in.

Once you have found your dream home, you are ready to make an offer.
