Arranging your mortgage

You're ready to arrange your mortgage if you:

  • Can afford the mortgage payments.
  • Have put an offer in on a house that's been accepted.
  • Have saved a deposit.
  • Have considered all the costs in moving.

If you have all of the above then you may want to seek mortgage advice before you go any further. You can get mortgage advice from various places, just make sure that whoever you turn to for mortgage advice is approved by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and understands your specific circumstances.

If you are ready to go ahead, then you have a choice of ways to start your mortgage application:

Online

This is great if you’re short on time. Rather than waiting for an appointment, you can complete the application at a time that suits you.

Not so great, if you prefer the good old face to face approach. Plus not all mortgage lenders are geared up to let you start your application online.

You can apply for a Halifax mortgage online. Once we receive your application you’ll get a phone call from one of our Mortgage Advisers to answer any questions and talk you through the next steps.

Tip: You’ll fire through the application if you gather the typical information you need first.

In branch

This is great if you’ve got an hour set aside to enjoy a nice cuppa as you complete the paperwork.

It's not so great if the only time you have available are in the evenings.

Tip: Book your appointment in advance. Halifax can call you back to arrange an appointment at your nearest Halifax branch.

Over the phone

This is great if you want a combination of mortgage advice and convenience.

It's not so great, if you want to apply in the middle of the night. Most call centres close in the late evenings.

Tip: Prepare for the call by gathering the typical information you need first.

You can call Halifax directly to complete your application over the phone - 08458 50 37 05. Alternatively Halifax can call you back.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
